The Laboratory of Comparative Pathology serving the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), Weill Cornell Medical College (WCMC) and the Rockefeller University (RU) is accepting applications for a1 year postdoctoral fellowship in laboratory animal, comparative, and genomic pathology for veterinary pathology trainees seeking to advance their knowledge in these disciplines.  

Fellows take advantage of the varied laboratory animal case load and have access to state of the art necropsy facilities, histology and immunohistochemistry services, and a fully equipped clinical pathology laboratory performing various diagnostic tests including hematology, clinical chemistry, parasitology, serology and microbiology. Other specialty cores accessible to the trainee provide electron and scanning microscopy, confocal microscopy, laser microdissection and molecular cytology services.  Participation in weekly conferences and rounds in conjunction with post-doctoral fellows enrolled in the Tri-Institutional Training Program in Laboratory Animal Medicine as well as interactions with MD pathologists from MSKCC and WMC are part of the training curriculum and helpful to those candidates preparing for boards. 

Responsibilities include performing gross and microscopic examination of a variety of laboratory animal species (mice, rats, hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, pigs, amphibians, birds, non-human primates, fish), and  interpreting findings, preparing reports, and communicating with staff veterinarians and/or research personnel as needed. Scientific collaboration and publication are encouraged. Supervision and support from three board-certified pathologists will be provided at all times.

MSKCC, WCMC, and RU are located in close proximity to each other on the East Side of Manhattan, Veterinary staff  include 3 ACVP board certified veterinary pathologists and 6  laboratory animal veterinarians (5 of whom are ACLAM certified).

The successful applicant must possess a DVM/VMD from an AVMA-accredited or equivalent institution and have at least 2 years of formal anatomic pathology training (such as a residency). Board eligible candidates are welcome and board preparation time may be granted.  Salary is based on the NIH post-doctoral scale and commensurate with experience. Expected start date is July 2012.
