About ACVP

The American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) is an organization of board-certified scientists that has been setting the standard for veterinary pathology since 1949. By promoting excellence in veterinary pathology, ACVP improves and protects human and animal health for the betterment of society.

From the Journal

Veterinary Pathology JournalVeterinary Pathology is the official journal of the ACVP. It is a forum for original observations on the pathology of natural and experimental disease in animals, and animal models of human disease – all helping to further scientific knowledge of veterinary pathology. The Journal has worldwide distribution and welcomes manuscript submission by all scientists.

NEW 2012 - 2017 ACVP Strategic Plan

The 2012-2017 ACVP Strategic Plan is constructed to remain dynamic and responsive to ongoing change.  This strategic plan focuses on activities and initiatives that will enable current and future members to fulfill their roles as veterinary pathologists and continue to advance the mission, vision, and objectives of the profession. EXAMINATION

The ACVP has established strict standards of training and expertise, and offers certifying examinations recognized by the American Board of Veterinary Specialties of the American Veterinary Medical Association. Certification candidates may be examined either in Anatomic Pathology or Clinical Pathology.

Michael D. Lairmore, a veterinarian, cancer researcher and top administrator at The Ohio State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, has been named the new dean of UC Davis’ School of Veterinary Medicine, following a nationwide search. Read more.

Stephen W. Barthold, DVM, Ph.D., of the University of California, Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine will receive the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges' (AAVMC) inaugural 2011 Merial-AAVMC Excellence in Research Award on Saturday, August 6, at the Merial-NIH National Veterinary Scholars Symposium in Florida. Cornell's Animal Health Diagnostic Lab in Ithaca, NY announced late on Thursday that there is a new Lyme Disease test available for diagnostic testing in dogs. Blood samples are submitted for the new antibody test that will replace ELISA and Western blot testing for Lyme Disease. Learn more

Dr. Joe Haynes, professor of veterinary pathology for Iowa State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, has been named chair of the Department of Veterinary Pathology. His five-year appointment as chair began May 16.

Willie E. Reed Receives Iverson Bell Award Dr. Willie E. Reed, AAVMC president and dean of Purdue University's School of Veterinary Medicine, received the Iverson Bell Award, given in recognition of his outstanding leadership and contributions in promoting opportunities for underrepresented minorities in veterinary medical education.

Air pollution plays role in cardiac, metabolic diseases To explore one of the most critical health/environment intersections - how the very air we breathe can cause heart disease and diabetes and contribute to the problems of obesity - Michigan State University has been named a Clean Air Research Center by the Environmental Protection Agency. Dr. Lairmore Elected as Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology
Dr. Michael Lairmore, Immediate Past-President of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) and Professor in the Department of Veterinary Biosciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, The Ohio State University has been elected as a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology.  As newly elected Fellow, he will be recognized at the 111th American Society of Microbiology Meeting in New Orleans on Tuesday, May 24th, 2011.
