Derek Mosier Reflects On Progressive Year As President

Progress in our organization doesn't happen by luck or by chance - it happens through the hard work of our members who are the soul of our College and consistently make wise decisions to serve the College well through the years - and many years to come. As I hand over the reigns to a new leader, I'd like to offer special thanks to Council, the task forces and committee members who were critical in moving forward in several key areas, including:

  • A new 2012-2017 strategic plan
  • A new Certifying Exam Board to provide strategy and guidance for exam initiatives
  • A new Maintenance of Certification Committee to prepare us for the American Board of

Veterinary Specialties-mandated, time-dated certification requirement beginning in 2016

  • Reorganizing our committees for greater integration and efficiency
  • Expanding our student chapter program
  • Creating plans to enhance our fundraising and endowments
  • Strengthening our strategy for the Journal and paving the way for a digital profile
  • Enhancing our relationships with domestic and international veterinary pathologists

We also welcomed a record 104 new members into the College this year. This is a testament to the high quality of veterinary pathology training programs for preparing future pathologists for our rigorous certifying exam.  As in years past, we said goodbye to some of our friends and colleagues, either through death or circumstances that make them unable to continue their participation in the College.  They will be missed.

It has been a privilege and honor to serve as your president this past year.  My involvement with ACVP has personally been an extremely rewarding career experience.  I encourage you to volunteer, be patient, and take advantage of opportunities to serve our College.
